5 Steps to help grow your social media platform

Using hashtags and relatable GIF’s can only get you so far in the world of social media. It really comes down to the kind of content you’re posting and the audience you’re trying to reach.

Every audience is different, and when creating a social media platform, it’s crucial to keep in mind which kind of audience you’re posting for. The following 5 steps can help you build a strong foundation to ensure growth on your platform.

Step 1: Find your target audience

The first step in building an audience is figuring out what specific audience you’re trying to reach.

Step 2: Consistency is key

There’s nothing worse than following an account just for them to go MIA right after you hit that follow button. Posting should be consistent and stay on schedule. If you post one time one week and then seven the next week that’s not being consistent, and your audience may get confused.

The best way to ensure you stay on top of your posting game is to create a content calendar. You could also set reminders in your phone telling you when to post.

By remaining consistent in posting, you will create a level of trust between you and your audience.

Step 3: Post relevant content

Let’s think of it like this…

If you are a huge fan of dogs and you wanted to start a fan account for all different kinds of pups, you wouldn’t want to post pictures of cats, right? You would want your content to be relevant to your overall topic.

Do some research and find out what kind of content similar accounts to yours are posting. Make sure your content is up-to-date and fresh. Posting content from years ago isn’t always a good idea, especially if your account is a business-related account.

Step 4: Utilize tools

Using tools like hashtags and Geofilters are also great ways to grow your account’s following. By using hashtags that are relevant to your post, people who are in your target audience will be more likely to find your account.

Geofilters are helpful when it comes to finding people in your location. This comes in handy when you’re creating a social event and want people in your area to attend.

Becoming aware and mindful of the various social media tools, will only prove to benefit you and your account.

Step 5: Don’t over-post

As mentioned earlier, consistency in posting is key. However, too much posting can be detrimental to your platform.

Posting too often can backfire, and cause annoyance to your audience. You don’t want to blow up anyone’s feed with your content. Finding a happy medium is crucial when it comes to posting. Again, a content calendar can ensure the perfect amount of content coverage on your account.
